{Halloween 2012} "Pumpkin" Rice Krispie Treats

After spending last Halloween on the couch waiting to pop from an overdue Raymo, this Halloween was perfect! Raymers looked perfectly and adorably "ferocious" in his dinosaur hoodie and tail and he loved crawling to the door every time the door bell announced more trick-or-treaters (which was three times total... with one group being a group of our high school students. And by the way, do kids not say "trick-or-treat" anymore?? When did it become okay for them just to stand there and stare at you as if they are owed the candy for putting on a mask? How lame sauce is that...).

ANYWAY.... I wanted Raymo to be able to celebrate Halloween at his baby school so I made him these "Pumpkin" Rice Krispie Treats.

I gathered enough supplies for two batches of treats and started melting the main ingredients (1 bag of mini marshmallows, 1/3 cup butter, 1 tsp. vanilla).

See the pretty flowers from the hubbs in the background? What a cutie. Okay, back to the sugary, buttery goodness melting in the pot... I added a few drops of yellow and red food dye to get the mixture to an orangey shade.

As I was pouring Rice Krispies into the gooeyness, the little man decided he wanted to help find a pan...

Yes, my child has no pants on. That's what happens when you have a boy child. They learn to take their clothes off whenever and wherever they want. Oh well...

Back to the goodies... I mixed 5 1/2 cups-ish of Rice Krispies into the orange mess and began trying to form the pumpkins with my hands. Bad news bears... They were all of of shape and it made a big sticky mess of my hands, clothes, counter, baby, dog, other dog, etc. Sooooo, wax paper it was. I spooned some treat mix into a piece of wax paper and molded the pumpkins that way instead. Much better!!

After I made all my orange balls (weird), I started over again in order to make the green stems (Repeat all steps but dye the marshmallows green this time).

They were turned out really cute and yummy! Raymo was one happy punkin when he tasted his Halloweenie treat!
